Ceylon tea is from Sri Lanka, an island off the southeast of India. Tea from the Kandy area is bright in colour and produces a crisp, subtle taste, although slightly stronger than Dimbula, which is another popular growing region. This grade is the medium/fine leaf, which can therefore be brewed for a shorter period.  Because of the island’s geographical position and climate, tea can be harvested throughout the year.

The teas from this area have retained the name “Ceylon”, even though the traditional name of Sri Lanka was  re-adopted in 1972. The majority of Ceylon Tea is used for blending. Kandy is a major city located in the central province of Sri Lanka. This district produces slightly stronger tea than its neighbour Dimbula because of the history with the East India Trading Company and their experimenting with Assam plants in different locations

'B.O.P.' Broken Orange Pekoe which refers to a small flat broken leaf. The different tea growing countries do vary with their sizes, so a Broken Orange Pekoe from one area may be a slightly larger or smaller leaf, compared to another. But still classed as B.O.P.
