The introduction of Assam tea to Europe was influenced by the East India Trading Company Tea Committee, who created a hybrid plant from Chinese and Assam tea plants which was found to grow best in the humid  monsoon prone Assam region. This discovery caused the province of Assam to be turned from wild wastelands to profitable tea plantations.
