Aroma Assam B.O.P

From £3.00

Assam is a region in India, which is one of the world’s largest Tea growing areas. Often sold for blending this tea is strong and packed with flavour. It has a pungent full bodied liquor and malty taste. This grade is the medium leaf which takes a little longer than the fine leaf to brew, thereby drawing out more of the flavour.

The introduction of Assam tea to Europe was influenced by the East India Trading Company Tea Committee, who created a hybrid plant from Chinese and Assam tea plants, which was found to grow best in the humid  monsoon prone Assam region. This discovery caused the province of Assam to be turned from wild wastelands to profitable tea plantations.

B.O.P. Broken Orange Pekoe refers to a small flat broken leaf. The different tea growing countries do vary with their sizes, so a Broken Orange Pekoe from one area, may be a slightly larger or smaller leaf that another. But still classed as a B.O.P. grade.
